Thank you very much for the kind, compassionate way in which you all took care of my husband's needs while he was a resident at your wonderful home. - Evelyn Lubben

Activities

You’ve probably heard it said before, but it’s the little things in life that really make a difference.  Hoyt Nursing & Rehab Centre’s Activity Department strives to provide those “little things” through social, physical, intellectual and spiritual activities that reflect residents’ interests and strengths.  Activity schedules are published monthly in our newsletter, “The Hoyt Gazette”.  Here are just a few…

Year Round: Transportation photo with staff assisting resident

Year-Round

Throughout the year residents have the option to enjoy a wide variety of on-site social venues including birthday parties; anniversaries; on-site entertainers like the Jazz Sax Duo; daily “Coffee and Cheer”; “Happy Hour”; arts-n-crafts; manicures; afternoon bingo; Keno; Jackpot; daily “Forever Fit” workouts; “Hoyt Cinema” nights; “Dogs on Wheels”; and Sunday Catholic Communion.  In addition, our new 12-passenger bus with wheelchair access could be used for special outings such as the casino trip.

Spring

By spring the Hoyt Garden Club is in full-swing planting in the outdoor raised-bed containers.  In April, the residents host the annual “Volunteer Recognition Party” and in May there is a week-long celebration for “Nursing Home Week”.  At Easter we decorate and color eggs.  Also, the residents work with a local school to celebrate the spirit of Easter by making baskets to hand out.

Summer

Summer at Hoyt is blissful, but far from boring with trips planned for Dow Gardens to view the flowers and plants.  Annual Zoo and Riverboat trips take place in July.  The residents and family members also enjoy this time of year by spending it on the outdoor patio areas.

Fall

Fall comes packed with festivities including an annual “Autumn Color Trip” with a stop at a local apple farm for cider and donuts.  Halloween is a treat with residents giving out candy to the children and grandchildren of staff and family members.  At Thanksgiving, the residents enjoy making centerpieces and napkin holders for the seasonal buffets. Residents also work with the Junior League on charitable projects.

Winter

Winter won’t get you down at Hoyt—there’s too much to do!  We have a ladies' and men's group that meets weekly to work on special projects. At Christmas, we take the annual Frankenmuth colored lights tour.  We have numerous groups in from singers to Santa Claus.  The residents and staff also adopt a local family in need to provide warm wishes and gifts.  At the New Year’s Eve party, residents celebrate with party drinks, snacks and musical entertainment.
